Star Rangers (Himitsu Sentai Goranger) (1975)

Himitsu Sentai Goranger translated into English means: "Secret Squadron FiveRanger". Goranger was the first in the long-running Super Sentai series of tokusatsu programmes. Himitsu Sentai Goranger was created by Shotaro Ishinomori. The series had a total of 84 episodes.

The world is threatened by an evil secret society called The Black Cross Army / Black Crusaders, and the United nations forms "EAGLE" (EArth guard LEague) to combat the threat. Special forces are distributed all over the globe (known as "Blocks"), and one of the largest blocks is Japan.

The Black Cross, fearful of this united threat against them, decides to launch a surprise attack against the Japan EAGLE Block and sends five of its most dangerous cyborg operatives to attack Japan’s various EAGLE branches.

Across Japan the Black Cross decimates its targets, killing all those who oppose them. Yet from the ashes of these destroyed bases, five young recruits miraculously survive and vow vengeance. Given a special interlocking key, the various survivors are summoned to snackshop "Gon", a secret gateway to EAGLE Japan's main command center by Japan's EAGLE Commander Edogawa Kenpachi. There they are given special formfitting electronic battlesuits, which empower its wearer with various superhuman abilities. Edogawa tells them that they are the Secret Squadron "Goranger", the world's best chance against the forces of the Kuro Juujigun. Armed with these battlesuits and other special weapons created by EAGLE scientists, they extract their revenge upon Black Cross operatives who killed their comrades and dedicate themselves to crushing the remaining forces of Black Cross.

Goranger was known in the Philippines as Star Rangers. The five rangers were simply known as Star 1 (red ranger), Star 2 (blue ranger), Star 3 (yellow ranger), Star 4 (pink ranger), and Star 5 (green ranger). Although each ranger is equipped with various weapons, their most popular weapons used to attack the enemy are located within the face patterns of their helmets.

Star 1 usually draws his Red Whip, which also can be stiffened and form a fighting staff or Spear Whip.

Star 2 uses Blue Cherry Bow, which shoots special Blue Arrows.

Star 3 uses Yellow Sticker (Rock, Paper, Scissors)

Star 4 is famous for using her Earring bombs, Shuriken throwing stars, and Magic Mirror, which was a special jamming device. She also carried the Ranger Ball which all 5 rangers would kick and use as their final blow to the enemy.

Star 5 uses his Greenmerang Boomerang.

Star Rangers were so popular in the late 70's till the mid 80's that a great number of Star Rangers bootleg merchandise saturated the market. Most popular items were Star Rangers t-shirts, plastic toys (purchased at Divisoria), tex cards, and even Star Rangers cheese snacks.

Wow, really? I didn't know Goranger aired in the Philippines back then. I'm an avid fan of Super Sentai, the yearly series that Goranger gave birth to.
