Jon,

Nahuli mo pre! There are a few people who have noticed that there's a bit more depth to this blog than what everyone sees on the surface. Nostalgia Manila was also created to educate and make people think, to ask simple questions like the one you just made:

"Bakit mas malinis at maganda noon kesa ngayon?"

When more people start asking questions like this, and decide to expand their awareness of what's really happening to our beloved country, only then will we see any REAL change. Sadly people seem to be preoccupied with frivolous things at the moment. Most people are not ready for any positive change.

Positive change is always possible. It all depends how much you want it and if you're willing to do away with the shallow trappings of today's society.

It's my hope that Nostalgia Manila will be part of that giant alarm clock that will wake people up from their slumber. Gising mga kapatid! Panahon na para't bumangon at gumising!

Sometimes, I feel sad seeing pictures of old Manila because they show that conditions in the Philippines then must've been better than how it is now. But it is a good opportunity also to see how far we've come.

It's great that Nostalgia Manila envisions itself as a catalyst for change, going beyond simply providing a venue to reminisce of days long gone. I hope that this blog would serve as a beacon to remind Filipinos that there was a time when the Philippines was a great nation, and that they can still reclaim that place of greatness in the eyes of the world--if they choose to take it.

More power to you, Nostalgia Manila!
