German-born synth pop musician Peter Schilling rose to fame with his 1983 hit single "Major Tom" from the album "Error In The System". With his music often inspired by science-fiction themes featuring aliens, astronauts, nuclear holocausts, etc, this tune was the retelling of David Bowie's 1969 classic "Space Oddity". Although the song was originally recorded in German, the international hit version was sung in English and became an international hit throughout 1984 and 1985.
