This was a 27 episode sentai television series, Uchu Kara no Messeji: Ginga Taisen (Message From Space: Galactic Battle) which followed after the release of the first film version. This popular Star Wars-like Japanese tv show was shown in the Philippines on IBC 13 under the title "Space Wars". The spaceship of the main heroes resemble Star Wars' Millennium Falcon, and one of the characters named "Baru" was a furry creature that resembled a wookie.
